"I like the way your hair is fading into that multi green zebra look." Jamison remarked, and actually sounded genuine.

I touched my long locks. The bright green dye had been a tragic failure after a few shampoos. I had told Molly I looked like a zebra this morning, and she had said I looked exotic. Gosh, darn it. I was going to triple wash that green out tonight for sure.

After a short photo shoot, trotted back to the stables and watched the day fade and the sun disappear into the mountains. Jamison turned his horse around and pulled up in step beside me.

"Seems like you are taking to this horseback riding really well, Jess." His voice and presence startled me. I'd been so enthralled with the scenery; I hadn't even noticed we hadn't been speaking.

I looked up at his regal posture and the easy way he seemed to melt with his horse's movement. I could see his legs muscles tense and bulge as he controlled his horse.

I looked away from said muscular legs and caught his eye. There was something about him…

"So…I want to know something about you.” I cocked my head.

"Such as?" His drawl had an edge of caution.

"Like what is this important secret list you have to finish?”

Jamie sat back on his horse and sighed. "So, we're going straight to the deep stuff?"

I shrugged. “I've kind of had my fill of small talk, so yeah, why not? It's not like we're ever going to see each other again after this vacation is over."

His blue eyes twinkled, and his full lips lifted.

"Right-o. We're never going to see each other again.”

"So," I said, "we can be real with each other—free therapy. Back to that bucket list, what's that all about?"

He cleared his throat and looked ahead stoically.

“It was a list my father and I made together." He twisted his rein, reluctant to continue. “We thought it would be a novel idea if we planned exotic events for us to pursue in the snow—just the two of us. So we made a list of all these wonderful, adventurous things we would enjoy together when we had the chance. Just the two of us."

He smiled.

"Some of my favorite memories I have are of us tossing about the choices for our list."

"So, your father…?"

Jamie's eyes clouded. "My father passed away recently…"

"Oh, I'm so sorry…" I said.

"Thank you. He was sick for a long time, most of my life, actually. Still, you're never ready to lose someone you love."

Boy, I knew that one. I reached over and grabbed his hand instinctively. It seemed to give him the strength to continue. His mesmerizing blue eyes met mine.

"In any case, we had made this plan—in all honesty, we both knew he could never go." Jamison laughed at the memory. "But we liked to pretend, and I think deep down it kept him fighting. Anyway, he really wanted me to go, even if he couldn’t make it before I…"

I waited. He shook his head.

"Before I take over the family duties, which are extensive.
